Pray For Arkansas

I had planned on writing a post about our wonderful weekend that we enjoyed as a family until last night.

For days the local news channels and the weather service had been warning individuals of severe weather that was due to arrive Sunday afternoon into the early Monday morning hours. We did what we had to do and got back home to wait out the storms and see what they brought for us.
The storms missed us but unfortunately approximately 40 miles from our home others were losing theirs.
We were watching the news as these tornadoes hit. Mass casualties, mayflower, vilonia take cover now the storm will be there within 5 minutes and as the reports rolled into the news center you could see the expressions on the meteorologists faces.

I cant seem to stop looking at the pictures, reading facebook updates and watching the news. Not even 24 hours after the storm. Mother nature shows no mercy to anyone.

I cant help but sit here and wonder what I can do to help so I thought to myself I can spread the word. Blog about it. Maybe just maybe this will reach others and they will see that Arkansas needs help and prayers.

Friday Hops and Flowers

I have impatiently waiting for some nice beautiful flowers to bloom but it seems we are behind compared to some other so I am limited on what has bloomed around here.

Tomorrow we are taking the kids to the zoo for a family day. Maybe I can get some pictures of some pretty blooms then. Most of the pictures that I post on my blog are straight out of the camera with no editing done.

Trumpet Vine

So the last couple of days I have been seeing blooms laying around on the ground and looked and looked and could not find where they were coming from.

I posted a picture on facebook and got a lot of responses on what they could be. Anything from trumpet lily to day lilies. Everyone wanted to think it was a lily. I had one person say a "hummingbird flower" So I looked that up and seen it said a trumpet vine. I kept reading and it said it did not bloom until June. Here it is and its only April. So I passed it off because of that and I never could find a vine. Anywhere!! I walk out this morning and see these blooms basically covering the ground. I look even harder and I found where they were coming from.

Yes this is indeed the "hummingbird flower" or trumpet vine. This is the only living thing on this tree. It was the last place I would have thought to look. It does not start low to the ground. Which is weird but it doesn't.
Supposedly this attracts hummingbirds. I have not seen any flying around it today. All I have seen are bees. If this plant is not supposed to bloom until June does this mean we are going to have a bad summer? Ugh I hate the heat. I hope this is not a sign of what is to come.

A tidbit of information on this vine. It will cause a reaction to people if the leaves are touched, something similar to poison ivy.
If you want to read more about this vine go ahead and click HERE.

I suggest if your allergic to poison ivy, do not touch this plan.

Not Your Typical Easter

Oh I have once again stumbled off the beaten path of blogging. But that is okay. I am here again and hopefully will continue to follow.

Easter was yesterday and I hope all of you enjoyed the day with your family. For us it is not the traditional Easters that I remember. We were never really into going to church and honestly I still dont. (Even though I am seriously thinking about it)
But we would always dye eggs, hide them, hunt them and have an Easter lunch. My parents never said what Easter was about or anything. I found out later as an adult.
Easter this year was a disaster. We decided to take Logan out to an Easter Egg hunt that a local church had set up at the city park. Logan was already feeling kind of rough but I wanted him to be able to pick up eggs since we decided we were not doing it at home. I should have put Logan in the younger age group. He was slow and never stood a chance. Unlike most of the other parents there, we wanted Logan to be able to do it himself and have fun. We look around and parents are gathering eggs and throwing them in their kids baskets. It was a horrible display of greed I have ever seen. Not only that but other parents were fighting. A brawl just about broke out and I heard the grandmother telling the adults it was not a place for that. It continued out in the parking lot. We just scooped up Logan and got out of there. We see kids leaving and parents carrying baskets overflowing with eggs. It was sad. It was very sad. So Eric and I have decided our goal for next year we will set up an Easter egg hunt for Special Needs Children. Then those kids will be given a chance.

As you can see he did not end up with much and most of that he can not even have due to allergies.

Then on our actual Sunday and settling down a bit after a the horrible display of people on Saturday Logan spent the morning in therapy.
After about 2 hours Logan started feeling really bad and ended up with a fever and the therapist had to leave early. I kept him home from school today and this is what he started his morning off with
This Easter is one to not exactly remember but to help up make a better one next year for my sweet little boy.
